Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum age for your programs?

Our programs are primarily for Muslim males between the ages of 10 and 17.
Any programs for females and ages other than those noted above will be posted on the website with specific program descriptions & requirements.

My child is reluctant to attend your program, but I think it would be good for him. Should I send him anyway?

It depends. We ask that participants arrive with a positive attitude and a willingness to participate in the group process. This is not a rehabilitation program, a survival program, or a therapeutic program for "at risk" children; it is a fun, exciting, and challenging adventure program for Muslim youth. A participant who is a behavior problem or continually disrupts the group process may be sent home without a refund. Therefore, you should not send your child if he does not want to accept the challenge. It is natural to be apprehensive about attending a program where you will be challenged both physically and mentally. However, we design our programs to be age-appropriate and to strike a balance between being too challenging and not challenging enough. If you think your child will enjoy the outdoors and camping, and is willing to give the activities his best shot, he will probably have a great experience at Nomad Camps. If your child is reluctant or nervous, it may help to speak with us or to have your child contact some of the former participants.  [Reference list available on request]

 Where are your camps held?

Our camps are held primarily in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States.

Why the Name NOMAD?

The name NOMAD was selected in the spirit of Prophet Muhammad’s (SAWS) hadith; "Live in this world as if you are a stranger or a traveler." [Saheeh al-Bukhari vol.8, p.284, no.425]

What will we be eating?

Leadership Camp participants will have each breakfast, lunch, and dinner prepared by the group or provided by a licensed food service facility. At Adventure Camps, meals are prepared over camp stoves by the group. The food is high in the carbohydrates and protein needed to provide energy.

What happens if I get sick or injured while at a Nomad Camp?

We require that the event facilitator at our camps be certified in CPR & First Aid.  If you become ill or injured, your facilitator will contact your parent/guardian.

How much spending money do I need?

It is not necessary to bring spending money for most of our camps.

What is the group camper/leader ratio?

We strive to maintain a camper/leader ratio of 5 to 1
